Diamonds from space

300 dpi image The cloudy material at the bottom of the vial contains quadrillions of microscopic diamonds that come from beyond the solar system. Extracted from the Murchison meteorite (sample shown above), these diamonds contain the isotopic fingerprints of exploding stars that flung them into space more than 4.5 billion years ago.
