University of Chicago students to hold vigil against hate crimes

In response to the recent spate of hate crimes, University of Chicago students will hold a midday Interreligious Vigil Against Hate Violence at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Alison Boden, Dean of Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, said the gathering will be in partnership with thousands of others across the nation to voice opposition to recent acts of hate-based violence and to affirm a commitment to safe, diverse communities rooted in compassion and respect.

The Fellowship of Reconciliation and the Interfaith Alliance are the national organizations who prompted vigils across the United States. Campus Ministries, religious student organizations and Rockefeller Memorial Chapel will sponsor the vigil at the University of Chicago.

The vigil will take place at the flagpole in the center of the Main Quadrangle at 5801 S. Ellis Ave. on the University of Chicago campus.
