Student artwork displayed at the University of Chicago this week for the annual Festival of the Arts
What/Who: Organized and directed by a group of College students, FOTA 2006 will showcase the work of more than 50 student artists. Pieces include Lego sculpture, theater performances, singing, photography, ballroom and salsa dancing and fashion design.
When: Saturday, May 13 - Sunday, May 21
Where: University of Chicago campus, Hyde Park
Background: For more than 30 years, students have participated in FOTA every spring. Following a period during the 1980s when the festival dwindled, students have created a revival over the last several years. This week, buildings and quads have been transformed into galleries, stages and performance spaces. “We are turning the entire campus into an art gallery. You just can’t avoid the art. It’s everywhere,” said Claire Mazur, FOTA Executive Director and College fourth-year. A complete schedule of the week’s events is available at http://fota.uchicago.edu.
