Journalists to debate Gaza disengagement

What/Who: “Appeasement or Peace in Our Time? Evaluating Gaza Disengagement.” Journalists Christopher Hitchens and Hillel Halkin will come together at the University of Chicago to debate current events in Gaza and the West Bank as well as the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. The event is being hosted by the student-run Chicago Friends of Israel.

When: 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 1

Where: Social Sciences Research Building, 1126 E. 59th St., room 122, University of Chicago


Hitchens is a longtime advocate for the disengagement of Gaza. Initially, Halkin was also in favor of disengagement, but has since become an outspoken advocate against it. Hitchens’ work has been published on Slate.com, in The Nation, Vanity Fair and many other publications. He was born in England, but currently lives in Washington, D.C. Halkin, who also works as a translator, has contributed to media outlets worldwide, including the Jerusalem Post, JewishWorldReview.com, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Sun. Halkin was born in New York City and now lives in Israel.
