Information for Visiting Scholars
The Humanities Division/Franke Institute Visiting Scholars Program
The University's Humanities Division and the Franke Institute have established a $50,000 relief fund to support up to 33 Visiting Scholars from academic institutions that have closed for this fall. The University will appoint scholars from institutions closed by Hurricane Katrina as Visiting Scholars for the fall quarter, renewable for an additional two quarters if their own institutions are not able to reopen by January 2006. Visiting Scholars will have all the privileges of a standard Visiting Scholar appointment. The University will also offer scholars an additional research budget of $1500 to support the replacement of books and other scholarly materials.
The University will process applications for the Visiting Scholarship program on a first-come, first-served basis until we have exhausted the fund. A Humanities Division faculty member must serve as a sponsor for the Visiting Scholar and must submit on that scholar's behalf: the nominee's CV, including information about where the nominee was expecting to hold an appointment for 2005-06, a letter from the sponsor endorsing the application, and an ANF form. Please submit application materials or any questions to Lisa Westerfield via email at: law1@uchicago.edu or 702-6229.
