International Conference on Mathematics Curriculum at The University of ChicagoWho: Leaders in mathematics instruction from the United States, Singapore, Korea and China What: International Mathematics Curriculum Conference organized by the Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum When: Friday- Sunday, Nov. 11-13 Where: Ida Noyes Hall, The University of Chicago Media contact: William Harms at 773-702-8356, w-harms@uchicago.edu The Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum (CSMC) is hosting its first International Mathematics Curriculum Conference, November 11-13, 2005 at the University of Chicago. The conference will focus on the design and development of K-12 mathematics curricula in Asian Pacific Rim countries. It will feature ministry officials and textbook authors from China, Japan, Korea and Singapore, as well as reactors from the United States. By focusing on countries with national curricula from one area of the world, the center hopes to clarify the various ways in which countries with similar traditions operate to determine their courses of study and how they translate those courses of study into materials for teachers and students. There will be panels and other opportunities for attendees to interact with speakers Funded by the National Science Foundation, CSMC serves the K-12 educational community by focusing scholarly inquiry and professional development around issues of mathematics curriculum. Major areas of work include understanding the influence and potential of mathematics curriculum materials, enabling teacher learning through curriculum material investigation and implementation, and building capacity for developing, implementing, and studying the impact of mathematics curriculum materials. CSMC partners are Michigan State University, University of Missouri-Columbia, Western Michigan University, University of Chicago, Horizon Research, Inc..
