Abstract: This symposium will examine the developmental and social status of African American males across the life span in the areas of health, education, human capital, and employment, and engagement with social welfare institutions including child welfare, juvenile and criminal justice, family, and community.

The symposium will feature a keynote address by a leading social work educator and scholar. In addition, a panel of emerging research scholars with extensive field experience will address how research findings can guide public policy and intervention practice aimed at African American males, their families, and communities. The symposium will also offer a range of workshops and panel presentations about innovative approaches to serving African American males across the lifespan.

This program will be of particular interest to social workers, policy analysts, practitioners, educators, child welfare workers, and program administrators working in the field.
