Second City comes home to Hyde Park
Second City, the world renowned sketch comedy troupe co-founded by Chicago alums, will be coming to the University of Chicago campus on Thursday, February, 10th to give a FREE performance to students, faculty, and staff.
Second City will perform at Mandel Hall in the University’s Reynolds Club, which is located at 1131 East 57th Street. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m, and the show, which will include sketch comedy and improv sets, will start at 7:30 p.m
For Second City, the return to Mandel Hall, is a homecoming. In the 1950’s, a group of Chicago students formed an improv group called the Compass Players on campus. In 1959, the group became The Second City. Co-founder Bernie Sahlins, AB'43, was former owner and artistic director of Second City for many years. Sheldon Patinkin, AB'53, AM'56, also served as Second City’s artistic director and author of, “The Second City: Backstage at the World’s Greatest Comedy Theatre.”
The performance is free. No advance tickets are needed, but guests must present a valid University ID for entry, and first priority will be given to undergraduate students. Early arrival is strongly recommended. Individuals with disabilities or special needs should contact the Office of the Reynolds club and Student Activities at (773) 834-8252 to request the necessary accommodations.
The performance is sponsored by the University’s Office of the Reynolds Club and Student Activities, the Student Care Center, and Noctis Sero, a student organization promoting a healthy nightlife.
