Law School Senior Lecturer Barack Obama wins U.S. Senate seat
Barack Obama, Senior Lecturer in the Law School, has won Illinois' U.S. Senate seat with 70% of the vote in the 2004 election. Obama was the keynote speaker at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. A transcript of his speech can be found here. In 2001, Obama was the speaker at the University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day memorial. The annual public service honoring King was held in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel on Monday, Jan. 21. The Coordinating Council for Minority Issues, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee and Rockefeller Memorial Chapel staff members organized the festivities for the 2001 Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the University.
