Benefactors' name to go on U. of C. arts center

May 4, 2007
The University of Chicago's new arts center will be named after a Near North Side couple who recently donated $35 million toward the project.

David and Reva Logan's contribution, which university officials say is the largest cash gift for the arts in the city's history, is earmarked for the $100 million facility, slated for completion in 2011.

The 180,000-square-foot building at 60th Street and Ingleside Avenue will help visual arts, theater, dance, music and film thrive at the Hyde Park school, Dean John Boyer said Thursday.

David Logan said he's most impressed with the university's plan to work with the neighborhood through the center's programs. "I think it's going to open up the school a little," said Logan, who graduated from U. of C. in 1939 and received a law degree there in 1941.

Reva Logan also attended U. of C. briefly.
